Portugal on stamps

This issue, part of a series of issues commemorating the Portuguese Republic’s centenary on 5 October 2010, remembers some of the distinguished women who, through their writings and actions, made important social, cultural or political contributions in the early 20th century, setting an example for the civic and political rights of women.

The stamps were designed by Vasco Marques / Folk Design and lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 13 and a Cross of the Order of Christ on the short side. Additional 50 thousand stamps depicting Maria Veleda were printed with a promotional coupon, on sheets of 5×5 stamps. The stamps were issued on 5 October 2009.
