Portugal on stamps

This issue commemorates the new democratic Portuguese Constitution approved on 2 April 1976 by the Constituent Assembly. The stamp depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and motherly love, as representation of the Portuguese Republic, framed by the colours of the national flag.

The stamp was designed by the Post Office Art Department, lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 13½ and a phosphor band, and circulated from 30 November 1976 to 31 December 1983.
