Portugal on stamps

This issue commemorates the founding of the Society of Portuguese Theatrical Writers and Composers in 1925, which later enlarged its scope (and changed its name) to deal with the rights and copyright fees of all kinds of authors, e.g. including film directors.

I include this issue in my collection only because of its design, which I think is brilliant. The plough with a fountain pen nib on white background symbolizes to me the work of writers and composers, planting on the empty page the seeds of a crop of thoughts and emotions for readers and listeners.

The stamps were designed by António Alfredo, lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 12 and a phosphor band, and circulated from 6 February 1976 to 31 December 1983.
