Portugal on stamps

This issue commemorates the European Year of Music in 1985. Immigrants from Madeira introduced the braguinha in Hawaii and further developed it into the ukelele, which means “the gift that came here”.

The stamps were designed by José Luís Tinoco, lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 12×12½ and a phosphor band, and circulated from 6 May 1985 to 31 December 1992.
