Portugal on stamps

To illustrate the theme set by CEPT, the Portuguese Post chose stylised images of the Southern plains (typical of the Alentejo region) and the Northern hills (e.g. as found in the Douro valley). The 4$00 stamp received an Asiago International Award for Philatelic Art.

The stamps were designed by the Post Art Services, lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 12×12½ and a phosphor band, and circulated from 2 May 1977 to 31 December 1983.
