Portugal on stamps

This issue commemorates the 550th anniversary of the rounding of Cabo Bojador (Bulging Cape) in Western Sahara by Gil Eanes, which made the Portuguese exploration of Africa possible, and the 150th death anniversary of King Pedro IV of Portugal, who was also the first Emperor of Brazil.

The stamps were designed by Luis Filipe de Abreu, lithographed by the Mint on enamelled paper sheets of 5×10 stamps with perforation 12×11½ and a phosphor band, and circulated from 24 September 1984 to 31 August 1989.
