I am Michel Wermelinger, a senior lecturer (associate professor) in Computing at The Open University (OU), the UK’s largest university and a world leader in part-time, online, tutor-supported higher education. Previously I was an assistant professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, and a full-time consultant at ATX Software SA.

What’s up, doc?
- The Secret Rules of Modern Living: Algorithms airs on BBC 4 at 9pm of September 24th. I was the academic consultant and also wrote two of the accompanying information booklets you can order for free.
- I’ve written a free online interactive introduction to coding, using Python, for BBC’s Make It Digital season.
- The Learn to code for data analysis MOOC got ca. 8000 registrations in the first two weeks of August!
- Our paper on whether developers follow Java coding conventions was accepted to the main track of ICSME.
