About / Contact

I am Michel Wermelinger, a senior lecturer in (and deputy head of) the Computing and Communications Department of The Open University (OU) in the UK. Previously I was a lecturer in the Computing Department of  Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, and a full-time consultant at ATX Software SA.

The OU is the largest UK university by student number, and a world leader in part-time, online, tutor-supported higher education. The OU has been in the top 5 positions of the UK student satisfaction survey since it started in 2005. The department is part of the Centre for Research in Computing, which achieved excellent results in the UK-wide 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. According to the citation data collected by Microsoft Academic Search, the OU is among the top institutions for software engineering research (7th within Europe and 34th worldwide, as of October 2013). If you’re interested in taking a full-time or part-time PhD or MPhil (master’s by research) with us, we provide excellent support to our research students.

My area of research and teaching is software engineering. The links at the top of this page lead to a selection of my professional activities, both internal and external. For a complete list of my past and current activities, see my CV.

For some non-professional interests see my rather dormant sites on games and Portugal. Due to my knowledge of WordPress, the Portuguese Philately Society appointed me as their webmaster.
